Brief description of Department

The department of Geography under the School of Environmental Studies in Bodoland University has been established in the year 2015, due to its increasing importance and relevance in the society. The department is presently located in Alongbar Science building of University. The first batch of M.A/M.Sc started with total intake capacity of 23 students for the session 2015-16.

 

 

Vision

The basic focus of Geography is on man and environment relationship and the spatial distribution of this interaction under different dimensions. Being under the School of environmental studies, the department is inclined towards the studies of environmental aspects such as, ecological studies, climatic studies, disaster management, biodiversity etc. There is also keen interest towards further study on rain fall distribution along the foot hills, fluvial study, culture and socio economic of the region. The department has emphasized on emerging modern technology on Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System. Further the department is also giving emphasis on research related with social relations, land related issues, political and cultural ecology, livelihood and other related social processes.

Departmental Facility

Department of Geography has got a Cartographic laboratory, topographic maps, with different survey instruments necessary for the Geographical learning.
